Current Topic: My MP3 collection grew so large that it required a database to catalog and manage it making all the media searchable using rational queries. I also had to write a bunch of software tools to make this possible. As it turned out the database is created using information gleaned entirely from the actual media files (MP3 TAGS).
The beauty of this method is that there was no manual data entry required. With the exception being having to fix the headers for some of the worst MP3 ID3-standard offenders.
And that's a really good thing because there are over 40,000 songs in the collection so far. And that's a lot of data to handle coherently. Not to mention manually. I'm also ignoring, for now, the massive image collection that goes along with the media.
To test all this I'm using the following query forms.
And the results are...
Artists = 4217
Albums = 7871
Titles = 44132
Genres = 215
Years = 117
Sample Rates = 10
Bit Rates = 22
