Current Topic: I have been maintaining Web sites, mostly private, for over two decades now and I needed to replace an old, simple, image manipulation program I wrote a long time ago which I can not run on Linux (native). I use it for quick and dirty scale and crop of the images I post. And there's no scarcity of media on my sites. Good, accompanying, media really helps tell the story.
So This Has Been My Primary Source For The Edited Web Images I Post...
Yeah! There are plenty of alternative image manipulation options available. But... A simple tool that does nothing but scale and crop, and then, save images in a format I choose and regulate not only helps with quality/content/size trade-offs but security issues as well.
Sadly... Most modern media allows embedding questionable data within frames outside of the scope of the media frame itself but allowed within the container context. A.K.A... 'Security Hole'. It also means bulk. And bulk means bandwith. And. Since I host my own servers on 'My' bandwith ticket I have always had to be content bulk sensitive.
So... Up until recently I have relied on on a legacy program I custom wrote to satisfy my exact usage pattern. Which I can not run any more. And the various, common, tools I'm currently using are making this simple task very clumsy for me. Not to mention questionable.
Now a lot of The Previous Work I Did Got To Pay Off...
Having a little bit of background now with X11, and a library of simple controls, I decided to re-create my beloved Web-Image-Manipulation-Program (WIMP).
I had no trouble now, loading, displaying and manipulating an image but I am currently stalled (lack of time).
Sigh!
Programming Demonstrations:
Available For Download...
When I complete restructuring my version control system I will be making the source available for download under GNU license only wishing I could add prohibiting use on commercial operating-systems. Ha ha!
In the meantime features may or may-not include:
